Our Asparagus

The name asparagus is Greek in origin and means “sprout” or “shoot”. It is packed full of nutrients, and a very good source of vitamins and antioxidants such as A, B, C, K, E, and folate. It contains minerals such as potassium, magnesium and iron, and is a good source of dietary fibre.

CUTTING IN THE FIELD

Asparagus is a particularly delicate and sensitive vegetable, so to ensure the best possible quality we cut the asparagus when the temperature is cool, often at night and early morning.

Each asparagus is carefully selected and picked and only ever cut by hand.

SUPPLY CHAIN

Momack Produce uses hydro-cooling technology to quickly reduce asparagus temperature thereby maximising its shelf-life.

We have a complex and efficient cold chain process to always ensure the best quality and freshness of product.

Our asparagus is freighted only by air to minimise time from paddocks to your plate.

GRADING

Grading is carried out using a state-of-the-art computerised vision system that measures each individual asparagus for diameter and colour to ensure consistency.

It is with this industry leading technology and our never-ending commitment that Momack Produce has established a worldwide reputation for quality and customer service.

PACKING

Our asparagus can be packed as either loose or as a bundle (e.g. 100g, 200g, 500g) according to customer and market specifications.

MACK AUSTRALIA packaging is of the finest premium quality and design and is available in wooden or plastic boxes (e.g. 5kg, 10kg).

The same wooden material is used for making premium wine boxes.

GROWING

Asparagus is a deciduous perennial plant which grows back each year from a root mass called a crown. It takes three years from planting the seed before a small harvest occurs. It is not until year four or five of the growth cycle when commercial quantities are harvested.

A well-managed asparagus crop will continually produce, season after season, for at least 10 years.
